Jacob Shade 1911 - 1978

Jacob Gamble Shade of Laurelwood Road, in Pottstown, Montgomery Couty County, Pennsylvania United States was born on June 20, 1911 to Emma Carrie Camble Shade and Frederick Isett Shade. He had a sibling Sarah Jane Shade Ewing. He married Dorothy Elizabeth Tyson, and had children Frederick Tyson Shade and Barbara Jean Shade. Jacob Shade died at age 67 years old on December 12, 1978, and was buried on December 15, 1978.

In 1911, in the year that Jacob Shade was born, the first Indianapolis 500 was run in May. Ray Harroun was the winner - he was an engineer and had retired from racing but he came back for this race. After the race, he retired for good. The purse was $27,550 - the largest offered up to that time - and Harroun received $10,000 for first place. His average time was 74.602 mph.
