József Barsi had been the victim of bullying as a child due to being “illegitimate”, and began to view women in a degrading and sexist manner, as his mother and father were not together. Around 1956, he immigrated to the United States from Hungary.
Personal Life & Family

His first wife, Klara, divorced him due to abuse he inflicted on her and their two children, Barna and Agi. They fled to the Phoenix region of Arizona, though he followed in their footsteps and became known to friends as “Arizona Joe”. Barsi was estranged from his first two children and eventually found himself in Los Angeles, where he met a waitress, Maria Virovacz, who had also been married previously. They wed circa 1977, and later had a daughter together, Judith Eva Barsi. However, Joe’s temper and abusive tendencies would come to the surface once again.
