Ivy Christina (Pearson) Bishop of Canterbury, City of Boroondara County, VIC Australia was born in 1900 in Collingwood, City of Yarra County to Charles Pearson and Emily Sarah Anderson. She had siblings Julia Fearnley (Pearson) Phillips, Myrtle Amelia Pearson, Alma Victoria Pearson, Rita Mavis Pearson, Rachel Fearnley Pearson, Alice May Pearson, and Joseph Lamla Pearson. She married Edward Thomas Bishop in 1919, and had a child Ronald Edward Bishop. Ivy Bishop died at age 84 years old in 1984 in Canterbury, City of Boroondara County.

In 1900, in the year that Ivy Christina Pearson was born, a massive hurricane, known as the Great Galveston hurricane, hit Galveston Texas. Winds hit up to 145 miles an hour (category 4) and it remains the single most deadly event in U.S. history. Between 6,000 and 12,000 died (most estimates are around 8,000 dead). The population of Galveston at the time was about 36,000 people in 1900.

In 1913, Ivy was just 13 years old when ratified in February the 16th Amendment, establishing a Federal income tax, became law. Previously, customs duties (tariffs) and excise taxes were the primary sources of federal revenue. With the passage of the 16th Amendment, incomes of couples exceeding $4,000, as well as those of single persons earning $3,000 or more, were subject to a 1% Federal tax (that would be about $98,000 and $74,000 now). Rates rose to 7% for incomes over half a million dollars. Less than 1% of the population was subject to income tax.
