    Ira Grant Lockett was born on November 2nd, 1892 in Upshur County, Texas to Essex Lockett (1865 - 1934) and Mattie Wilson (1867 - 1933). His father was born in Arkansas and his mother was born in Texas. He had eight siblings: Smart, Oliver, Ora, Della, Dell, Corine, Asbury, and Clemmie. Ira Lockett married Ora Delois Cannon (1894 - 1969) on February 11th, 1914 in Gladewater, Texas, and they had six children: Connie, Ira, Arula, Biven, Roscoe, and Ruby. After Ora died, Ira married Jessie G. Riggs (1913 - 2000) on May 25th, 1974 in Upshur County, Texas. They divorced on April 10th, 1987 and didn't have any children. Ira died on March 28th, 1989 at the age of 96. He is buried with his first wife, Ora in Red Rock Memorial Park in Gladewater, Texas. See Ira G. Lockett: Obituary.

    Ira was married twice - he married for the second time after his first wife, with whom he had six children, had died. He was the worshipful master of Masonic Lodge No. 278 in Gladewater, Texas. Ira was survived by two daughters, Arula and Ira Mae, and two sons, B.W. and Rosco. He was also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In 1892, in the year that Ira G. Lockett was born, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.
