My Great Uncle Ingmar
Ingmar was my grandfather's brother. He immigrated from Norway around 1906. He later settled in Montana. He was already quite old when I met him as a child but he was fond of his brother Hjalmar's family in Minnesota and visited us several times. My mother and I visited him in Columbia Falls, Montana, also. He was an amateur painter and he depicted many scenes of ranch life from his early days in Montana in great detail. I have one of his paintings. After his wife Clarice died in the early 60's he returned to Norway and married a woman he had known for many years, Elisabeth Johnsrud. He visited the US with her and I met her a couple times. He lived just outside of Oslo at Bekkastua during his last years, dying a couple months before his 100th birthday in 1986. After his death a cousin and I visited Elisabeth and she took us to Kampen, the original home of the Thoresen clan up in the mountains, still owned by a family member of the Thoresen. Ingmar never had any children, but I do have many photos of him.
