Ida Keighley 1896 - 1936

Ida (Keighley) Dadswell of Bendigo Australia was born in 1896 in Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County, VIC to Flora Bertha (Peacock) Keighley and Edward Keighley. She had siblings Richard Keighley, Stella Elizabeth Keighley, Edward Victor Keighley, Rich Keighley, Edward Victor Keighley, Allen Lindsay Keighley, Ida Dadswell, Kenneth Keighley, and Reginald Edward Keighley. She married Ernest Herbert Dadswell in 1926, and had a child John Stephen Dadswell. Ida Dadswell died at age 40 years old in 1936 in Prahran, City of Stonnington County.

In 1896, in the year that Ida Keighley was born, on August 17th, the first pedestrian v car fatality occurred in Great Britain. Bridget Driscoll, age 44, was walking with her family on the grounds of The Crystal Palace in London when she was hit by a car driven by Arthur James Edsall. Edsall claimed to be going 4.5 mph and Driscoll's death was ruled an "accidental death" after an inquest.

In 1906, by the time she was just 10 years old, Finland became the first European country to give women the vote and to allow them to run for political office. (Women in Australia and New Zealand already had that right but couldn't run for office.) Although Finland belonged to the Russian Empire, there was great unrest and the Tsar wanted to broker a quick peace. As a part of the brokered peace, women got the vote.
