Ida’s Way
She very much wanted to get to old age but when she got there, she didn’t like it. Other people had to be relied upon and they didn’t do things the way she was used to.

SCRABBLE AS WAR
She was a fierce competitor, even into her 90’s. Ida had a weekly Scrabble game with her younger sister, Esther (who lived into her 100th year). She was not above making up a word or two as the hotly contested match approached the finish line. After such a battle, The two sisters wouldn’t talk for days. The, one sister would call the other and the two acted as if nothing had happened. Thanks 🙏

Her great sense of humor
Late in her life, she told me a joke which went: “A man was sitting at a bar enjoying a freshly poured mug of beer. During his first sip, he heard the sound of a fire engine. He loved to follow fire engines. But what to do with his beer?
A brilliant solution was quickly devised. The man asked the bartender for a sheet of paper and a pencil. He wrote a note which said simply: “I SPIT ON THIS BEER!” He placed the note under the beer mug and left to follow the fire engine, confident that his tasty beer would be waiting for him upon his return. When he returned
to the bar, his nearly full beer mug was awaiting his arrival. Just as he raised the mug to his expectant lips, his attention was drawn to the note which he had written. Underneath his message was printed the words: “SO DID I!!”

She was my grandmother. A loving and generous woman. She raised three estimable sons, one of whom, Dr. Frederick, was my father. A finer man has not walked the Earth. Ida had a very fulfilling marriage with Dr. Frank Goldstein, who died at age 49, way too young. Ida lived on for 44 years, devoting her love to her sons and the generation that followed. She had a long and blessed life!!
