He married Lorna Maybury (Moriarty) Byrne on March 11, 1942 at Xavier College, 135 Barkers Road, in Kew, Boroondara City County, Victoria, and they were married until Hugh's death on July 17, 1967. He had children Caroline Byrne and Peter Byrne. Hugh Byrne was buried at Boroondara General Cemetery, 430 High St, in Kew, Boroondara City County.
