Heyward Hembree of Simpsonville, Greenville County, SC was born on September 9, 1921 to Fannie Mae Hembree and James Robert 'Docky r' Hembree. He had siblings Ollie Hembree, Couxell 'Sweetie' Hembree Coleman, Frank Hembree, and Willard Hembree. Heyward Hembree died at age 64 years old in July 1986.

Heyward had a large family consisting of step children, children and grandchildren. He called them The Tribe. There was a long dirt road that ran beside the house. Heyward would take the children and grandchildren for walks. The kids loved it because we always found money. It was especially exciting to find a quarter. In those days a quarter was a lot of money for a kid. It wasn’t until we were adults that we discovered that Heyward threw the coins down for us to find on the trip back. We thought he was just good at finding money.

Heyward Hembree

Heyward Hembree--Spartanburg County, SC. He was a vetran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. I believe him to be abt. 17 years old in the photo. He is the great great grandson of Daniel Epps who died in Spartanburg in 1872. Heywards parents were Fannie Mae Hembree and Dock R. Hembree.

Fannie Mae Hembree and Children. Taken around end of 1927 in Greenville/
Spartanburg,SC. Missing from photo, Fannie's son Ollie who was 16 years old. This was taken after the death of Fannie's Husband Dock R. Hembree. (listed L to R back to front)
People in photo include: Costel 'Sweetie' Hembree, Willard Hembree (In Fannie's Lap), and Frank Hembree
