Hester (Washer) Stern's History: 1901 - 1985

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Hester was my grandmother's cousin. I met her as a small child. Her daughter Elberta was learning disabled and when her husband left, she raised and cared for Elberta until her death. Hester's mother was Netta or Nettie Irene Juckett and my great grandmother's twin sister. Her father was Harry Sr. and she also had brothers, Harry Jr., Charles or Chick, George who was killed by a train at age 15 and Forrest who died as an infant. Unfortunately, this branch of my family ended with Elberta. Harry Jr. and his wife Rose had 2 children but both died in infancy.

I don't know much about the Washer's but her mother Nettie was born in St. Charles. Nettie's father William Jucket/t was born in St. Charles and her mother Sofia Hester at Lake Geneva. Her great grandparents were Madeline Schaffer and Jacob Hester who immigrated from Baden, Germany, and Leonard Jucket from Vermont and Lucinda Brown from Tompkins county, NY. Lucinda Brown's parent's were Nancy Linderman and Zebina Brown. The Linderman line can be traced to the Revolutionary War. Zebina was a veteran of the War of 1812 and received a bounty land warrant in Kane county.
