Henry ran a small walk in Watch/Clock repair shop in downtown Providence. I would frequently stop there on my breaks between classes at Roger Williams College. I ran into him a few times years later, once on a trip to Boston we had a nice chat and still later at the Lincoln Mall. He had escaped Germany, he told me, by assuming an air of arrogance and pretending to support the government. He eventually escaped and spent some time in a refugee internment camp in Switzerland before eventually making his way to America. He was married and, as far as I know, had one son.

Henry was one of the top players at the Providence Chess Club where I met him in the early 1960's. He had a European background and his favorite opening was the Schevennigen variation of the Sicilian defense. He also read extensively German philosophers, in particular Schopenhauer and we had many interesting discussions.
