    Henry Joseph Springall was born in London, England on March 23, 1902. He is the son of Thomas Joseph Springall (1862-1945) and Agnes Allen (1862-1944). He had siblings Margaret Springall (1894-1980), Thomas Springall (1898-1961), and George Springall (1900-1904) as well as many half siblings. He married Alice Louisa Newman (1902–1993) in Southwark, Surrey, England on June 21, 1925. Henry served in the Royal Navy. He had service number "p/ss 125711" and was ranked as a Stoker 1st Class. He was a member of the H.M.S. Cossack. On 23 October 1941, while serving aboard H.M.S. Cossack, Henry Joseph Springall was part of an escort mission for a convoy traveling from Gibraltar to the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, on 26 October, Cossack was hit by a single torpedo fired by a German submarine. The ship ultimately sank in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Gibraltar, on 27 October 1941. This tragic event resulted in the loss of 159 crew members, including Henry Joseph Springall.
