He had siblings Isabella Sarah Heywood, Alice May Heywood, Mary Bell Stuart Heywood, James Alexander McMurdo Heywood, Arthur Edward Heywood, Ellen Maude Matson, Amy Ellen (Heywood) Holmes, Charles Spearman Heywood, and Margaret Elizabe Holmes. Henry Heywood died at age 21 years old on June 19, 1916 at Armentieres, in France, and was buried at Desplanque Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-d'Armentieres,, in Nord Pas de Calais.

    The Argus, Melbourne. 12th July 1916. COUNTRY NEWS. SWAN HILL. - Mr. Henry S. J. Heywood, of Narrung via Swan Hill, has received a cable message through the Defence Department, announcing that his son, Private George Heywood, has been killed in action in France as the result of the explosion of a trench mortar. Private Heywood, who was only 21 years of age, was at Gallipoli, and suffered neither injury nor illness there.
