Henry Alfred Membrey 1868 - 1948

Henry Alfred Membrey of Gardenvale, City of Glen Eira County, VIC Australia was born in 1868 in Buninyong to Benjamin John Membrey and Mary Ann (Hadley) Membrey. He had siblings Edward Membrey, Caroline Mary Membrey, Mary Anne (Membrey) Crowe, William Hadley Membry, Walter Membrey, and James George Membrey. He married Mary Scott (Tainsh) Membrey in 1891, and had children James Vivian Membrey, Eliza Lillian Jane Membrey, Clifford Henry Membrey, and Aubrey Vernon Membrey. Henry Membrey died at age 79 years old on December 22, 1948 in Gardenvale.

In 1868, in the year that Henry Alfred Membrey was born, on February 24th, three days after his attempt to dismiss United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton - who was opposed to Johnson's leniency towards the former Confederacy - the US House of Representatives voted (126 to 47) to impeach Andrew Johnson. Johnson was later acquitted in the Senate by one vote short of the required 2/3rds.Senators crossed party lines to keep Johnson as President.
