Henrietta Schmidt was born in 1886 to Louis Henry Schmidt and Elizabeth (Maul) Schmidt, and had siblings Mathilda Edna (Schmidt) Crawn, Minnie Schmidt, Anne Schmidt, George Schmidt, and John Schmidt. Henrietta Schmidt died at age 3 years old in 1889.

In 1886, in the year that Henrietta Schmidt was born, on February 14th, the first train left Los Angeles for the East -by the way of the transcontinental railroad - with a cargo of oranges. Due to irrigation and the import of water, Los Angeles was the ideal place to grow oranges - which became a popular addition to Christmas stockings.
Did you know?
In 1889, in the year of Henrietta Schmidt's passing, on March 31st, the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. Because the elevators were not yet in operation, officials had to climb to the top of the tower - it took an hour. On May 15th, the Tower opened to the public - still without working elevators - but around 30,000 visitors still made the climb. The elevators went into operation on the 26th. The Tower wasn't considered aesthetically pleasing at the time but is now one of the most iconic structures in the world.
