    Harton Singer Semple was born to Richard Hollyday Semple (born 1888) and Hester Harton Singer (1887 - 1952). His father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. He had a sister, Brown H. Semple, and a brother, Richard Hollyday Semple Jr. Harton Semple married Phyllis Alberta Keister (1921 - 2009 on May `17, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. They had four children: three daughters and one son. A veteran of World War II, Harton enlisted on February 12, 1943 and was discharged as an officer on August 30, 1945.     SEMPLE On March 19, 1990, Harton Singer Semple of Sewickley, Pennsylvania in Augusta, Georgia; husband of Phyllis Keister Semple; father of Harton Jr. of Sewickley, Fraser S. Foster of Sq. Hill and Carol S. Thompson, Cherry S. Seifert and Heather Semple all of Sewickley; seven grandchildren and one brother, Richard H. Jr. of Sewickley. Friends may call 2 - 4 and 7 -9 Thursday in the Edgeworth Club Sewickley. Services will be held Friday 1 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Sewickley, 414 Grant Street. It is suggested that contributions be made to the Heart Fund or US Gold Association, Far-Hills, NJ. Arrangements by Dallas S. Irvine Funeral Home Sewickley. - The Pittsburgh Press, Wednesday March 21, 1990, on page 36.

In 1920, in the year that Harton S Semple was born, in September, a bomb exploded in the J.P. Morgan bank building in New York City, killing 30 people immediately - 8 later died due to their injuries - and injuring another 200. Killing more people than the 1910 bombing of the LA Times (the deadliest terrorist act up until then), no one took responsibility and the perpetrators were never found. Italian anarchists were suspected of the bombing.
