Harry I. Leek was born on July 18, 1871 in Randolph, Morris County, New Jersey United States to Charles T. Leek and Anna Marie Reynolds, and had siblings John N. Leek, Charles Edward Leek, Louella Leek, William Morford Leek, and Florence Leek. He married Malinda L. Griflee, and had children Harvey Leek, Harry Leek, Olive Leek, Daisy Leek, Elvin Leek, Elvira Leek, Stanley Leek, Myrtle Leek, Mary Leek, Samuel Leek, and Charles Leek. Harry Leek died at age 87 years old on January 10, 1959 in Chatsworth.

In 1871, in the year that Harry I. Leek was born, on October 8th, 4 major fires started on the shores of Lake Michigan - in Chicago (Illinois), Peshtigo (Wisconsin), Holland (Michigan) and Manistee (Michigan). The Chicago fire is the most well known of them because it left almost 100,000 people homeless. But the Peshtigo Fire killed around 2,500 people. The casualty count made it the deadliest fire in US history.

In 1928, at the age of 57 years old, Harry was alive when Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.
