Harry Edward Ohmie Sr of Le Roy, Coffey County, KS was born on June 28, 1914 in Herington, Dickinson Co County to Bertha Marie Martha Louise (Gehrke) Ohmie and John Dietrich Ohmie. He had siblings Herman William Ohmie, Irwin Clarence Ohmie, Robert John Ohmie, Raymond Leroy Ohmie, Floyd Eugene Ohmie, Mildred (Ohmie) Corbett, and Lillie Irene (Ohmie) Adams. He married Laura Dell (Hollander) Ohmie on August 24, 1940 in Benkelman, NE, and had children Myrtle LaVerne (Ohmie) Lendo, Donald James Ohmie, Peggy Joanne (Ohmie) Ryan, and Harry Edward Ohmie Jr. Harry Ohmie died at age 82 years old on September 18, 1996 in Topeka, Shawnee Co County, KS, and was buried on September 23, 1996 at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Larimer Co County, CO.

    Topeka Capital Journal Thursday Sept. 19, 1996 HARRY EDWARD OHMIE LEROY-- Harry Edward Ohmie, 82, LeRoy, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at a Topeka hospital. Mr. Ohmie farmed and was a carpenter in the LeRoy area from 1947 to 1962. He lived and worked in Loveland, Colo., from 1962 to 1974. He was born June 28, 1914, at Herington, the son of John Dietrich and Bertha Gehrke Ohmie. He was married to Laura Dell Hollander on Aug. 24, 1940, at Benkelman, Neb. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Peggy J. Sprinkle, Clifton, Colo., and LaVerne Lendo, Burlington; two sons, Harry E Ohmie Jr., Fort Collins, Colo., and Donald J. Ohmie, Ottawa; four brothers, Herman Ohmie and Raymond Ohmie, both of Seattle, and Robert Ohmie and Floyd Ohmie, both of Coffeyville; two sisters, Mildred Corbett, Palo Alto, Calif., and Lillie Adams, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Resthaven Memory Gardens at Fort Collins, Colo. Memorial services will be at a later date in LeRoy. Memoial contributions may be made to the Harry Ohmie Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the Jones Funeral Home at Burlington or to First national Bank at LeRoy, 601 Main, LeRoy, 66857.

In 1921, when he was merely 7 years old, on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
