Harriet (Blacker) Hannaway of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born in 1884 to Thomas Blacker and Mary Dobson Blacker. She had siblings Hannah (Blacker) Watkin, Mary Blacker Harvey, Margaret Blacker, Elizabeth Blacker, Ameila Jane Blacker, Thomas Blacker, Sarah Ann Blacker, Albert Blacker, Alfred Blacker, James Blacker, Charles Blacker, and Joseph Blacker. Harriet Hannaway died at age 84 years old in 1968 in Prahran.

In 1884, in the year that Harriet Blacker was born, on August 5th, the cornerstone for the base of the Statue of Liberty - a gift from the people of France - was laid. 120,000 people - most donations were $1 - donated to the completion of the base. An 1883 poem by Emma Lazarus was also written to raise funds. That poem was included in the base of the statue and is well known today. In 1893, at the age of just 9 years old, Harriet was alive when on November 7th, the women of Colorado were given the right to vote via a state referendum. Fifty-five percent of voters turned out and the referendum passed with 35,798 voting in favor and 29,551 voting against.
