Hannah Palfreyman 1856 - 1888

Hannah (Sheppard) Palfreyman was born in 1856 in Hayfield, Derbyshire County to Charles Sheppard and Sarah Sheppard, and had siblings Ellen Ann Sheppard and Sarah Sheppard. She married Joseph Palfreyman, and died at age 32 years old in 1888 at Gleadless Road, in Heeley, Yorkshire County. Hannah Palfreyman was buried at All Saint's Church in Ecclesall.

In 1856, in the year that Hannah Palfreyman was born, on January 26th the Battle of Seattle occurred. Marines from the ship the USS Decatur, stationed in Elliott Bay, along with about 50 Seattle settlers, fought Native Americans in the area. Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens had declared a "war of extermination" on Native communities 5 days before.
