Hannah Elizabeth Ffrench Kennedy 1880 - 1969

Hannah Elizabeth (Ffrench) Kennedy of Landsborough, Pyrenees Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1880 in Landsborough to Joseph Braddell Ffrench and Hannah Shunny Ffrench. She had siblings Daniel Ffrench, Rachel Braddell Ffrench, Catherine Mary (Ffrench) Falvey, Anthony Shephard Ffrench, Thomas Ffrench, and William Ffrench. She married George Kennedy in 1906, and had children George Hamilton Kennedy, Agnes Hannah Kennedy, Catherine Mary Kennedy, Thomas Joseph Kennedy, Sarah Veronica Kennedy, John Francis Kennedy, and Bonaventura Kennedy. Hannah Kennedy died at age 89 years old in 1969 in Hamilton, Southern Grampians Shire County, Victoria.

In 1880, in the year that Hannah Elizabeth Ffrench Kennedy was born, on August 26th, P. T. Barnum and James A. Bailey signed a contract in Bridgeport, CT, creating the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Twenty-seven years later, the Barnum and Bailey would merge with another circus, Ringling Brothers.

In 1905, she was 25 years old when the Niagara Falls conference was held in Fort Erie, Ontario. Led by W.E.B. Du Bois and William Monroe Trotter, a group of African-American men met in opposition to racial segregation and disenfranchisement. Booker T. Washington had been calling for policies of accommodation and conciliation and these two men, along with the others who attended the conference, felt that this was accomplishing nothing. The group was the precursor to the NAACP.
