    VINTON: Jo Warner, 82 of Vinton died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a brief illness. The family will receive friends at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Avenue in Vinton from 4 – 6 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011. There will be no public services and Private Family Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Jo was born May 12, 1929 the daughter of C. Earle and Elizabeth (Ross) Parmater. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. Jo was united in marriage to Frank E. Warner on March 4, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2009. Jo enjoyed dining out, traveling and visiting with her many good friends. She is survived by her daughter, Gisele N. Warner of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Pat Salger of Vinton and Lois Pennington of Everett, Washington. In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by her four sisters, Nan Mussman, Virginia Heath, Mary Jean Walter and Velma Blough and her five brothers, Cliff, Ross, Russ, Bill and Vern Parmater.

In 1937, by the time she was only 8 years old, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
