Grover Cleveland Nason 1887 - 1962

Grover C. Nason was born on April 5, 1887 in Canaan, Somerset County, Maine United States to Katherine Olive Harris and Arvell Manser Nason, and had siblings Clyde Jeremiah Nason, Shirley Carpenter Nason, Frances Ivy Nason, Nancy Pearl Nason, Margaret M. Nason, and Katherine Harris Nason. He married May Etta Bragg on December 10, 1913, and they were married until May's death in 1928. He had children Clayton Franklin Nason, Chester A. Nason, Gwendolyn Meredith Nason, Mary Katherine Nason, James D Nason, and Eileen M. Nason. Grover Nason died at age 74 years old on February 27, 1962 in Waterville, Kennebec County.

In 1887, in the year that Grover Cleveland Nason was born, on July 1st, the assembly for the supports of the Eiffel Tower began . A wrought iron lattice tower, it was designed and built by Gustave Eiffel - who also contributed to the building of the Statue of Liberty. There are 18,000 pieces in the Eiffel Tower - which had to be built separately and then assembled in place - with rivets - to complete the Tower.

In 1915, at the age of 28 years old, Grover was alive when in May, the RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo. The Lusitania was a British passenger ship that was sailing from New York to Liverpool England. She sank in 18 minutes - 1,198 died and 761 survived. While travelers were the main casualty - and commodity - the Lusitania did carry wartime weapons. "Remember the Lusitania" became the rallying cry of World War 1.
