Gordon W Yort of Morrison County, Minnesota United States was born in January 1918 to Henry Yort and Clara (Strom) Yort. He had siblings Beatrice (Yort) Sandusky and Donald Yort. He married Gertrude (Fietek) Yort in March 1944, and they were married until Gordon's death in December 1964. Gordon Yort had children Emma Jean (Yort) Knopik, Sandra Elaine (Yort) Goldenstein, Curtis Gordon Yort, and Collette Marcia (Yort) Ehrenberg.

In 1918, in the year that Gordon W Yort was born, on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.

In 1926, at the age of just 8 years old, Gordon was alive when on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network.
