Gordon Burns Peddie was born in 1903 to John Alfred Peddie and Mary (Burns) Peddie, and had siblings John Peddie, Florence Mary Peddie, Doris Hilda (Peddie) Gibson, Ethel May (Peddie) Ellis, Thomas Henry Peddie, and Gladys (Peddie) Fagg. He married Dorothy (Johnson) Peddie, and died at age 61 years old on October 30, 1965. Gordon Peddie was buried at Springvale Crematorium in Springvale, Greater Dandenong City County, VIC Australia.

In 1903, in the year that Gordon Burns Peddie was born, the first World Series of American baseball was played between October 1st and 13th. The Boston Americans of the American League played the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. Boston came back from a three game to one deficit, winning the final four games to capture the title - such a large comeback wouldn't be repeated by a team until 1925. (A total of eight games were played.)

Early in his presidency, the October stock market crash - "Black Tuesday" - occurred, which lead to the Great Depression. None of his economic policies were able to make a dent in the Depression. This lead to one term and the election of Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt winning the 1933 election in a landslide.
