Gilbert Leslie Hine, age 82, of Williamsport, PA and formerly of Ithaca, died Saturday morning at Manor Care North of Jersey Shore in Pennsylvania. Gil was born in Ithaca, the son of the late Leslie and Minnie Hine. A graduate of Ithaca High, Class of 1946, Gil will be remembered for his interest in racing stock cars at Chemung, hunting on the family farm, collecting antique cars, watching girls fast pitch softball, and cheering on his favorite college football team, Penn State. Prior to his retirement, he was an insurance agent for Bankers Life Insurance Company for 40+ years. A generous man who will be most remembered for his giving personality. Gil is survived by his two daughters, Sherri Rook and Maria Hine; a son, Mike (Chris) Frey; three grandchildren, Michael Frey II, Nikki Frey, and Jennifer Hine and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Frey; two nephews, Ron Hine and Donnie (Lousie) Hine. Gil is preceded in death by his wife, Esther Martz Hine; a daughter, Faith Hine and a granddaughter, Amber Hine; a brother, DeWitt Hine; a sister, Doris Hine Austin. Funeral Services were private and burial was held in Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Herson Funeral Home, Ithaca.
