Gertrude Howard was born in 1863 to Hortense Eliza (Stoll) Howard and Henry Robert Howard, and had siblings Zoe Beatrice Howard, Arthur Collis Howard, Amy Octavia Edith Howard, Henry Adrian Howard, Maude Elizabeth Howard, Ernest James Howard, and Edith Sarah Howard. Gertrude Howard died at age 74 years old on May 11, 1938, and was buried at Kew Cemetery in Kew, Boroondara City County, VIC Australia.
