Gertha Bame died at age 81 years old on November 29, 1972 in Rowan County.

In 1891, in the year that Gertha Elizabeth (Huffman) Bame was born, from March 9th through the 12th, a blizzard hit the south and west of England. Called the Great Blizzard of 1891, it led to snow drifts of up to 15 feet and killed 200 people and 6,000 animals. Fourteen ships sank.

Griffith's movie "Pippa Passes" also called "The Song of Conscience", a silent film. The movie was the story of a young female factory worker, on her day off, wandering and singing - thus changing the hearts of those around her towards good.
