George Palmer 1827 - 1873

George Palmer of Australia was born in 1827 to Henry Palmer and Elizabeth Palmer. He had siblings Henry James Palmer, Harold Kimberley Palmer, Rebecca Palmer, Francis Edward Palmer, James Palmer, George Palmer, George Guild Palmer, and Alfred Bertram Palmer. George Palmer died at age 46 years old in 1873.

In 1827, in the year that George Palmer was born, on May 25th, Romanian inventor Petrache Poenaru received a French patent for the invention of the first fountain pen with a replaceable ink cartridge. The fountain pen would make inkwells obsolete. Poenaru's patent used a barrel made from a large swan quill (part of the feather).

In 1830, George was just 3 years old when on May 28th, the US Congress passed the Indian Removal Act. The Act authorized the President to negotiate with Native Americans in the southern region of the US, exchanging their ancestral lands for federal territory west of the Mississippi River. Tens of thousands of Native Americans were forced to move - and march - west.
