The first Star Wars film, "A New Hope" opened to 32 locations on Wednesday, May 25, 1977. Two days later, an additional 11 locations were added across the United States due to the instantaneous popularity. The movie was distributed in wide release on July 15, 1977. May 25, 1977 however,is immortalized in the minds of fans as the birthday of Star Wars.
Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) won 6 Oscars: Editing, Art Direction, Costume Design, Sound, Score, Visual Effects and received a special achievement award for Sound Effects.
