  • Introduction

    The Argus, Melbourne. 6th August 1925. FARMER ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. AVOCA, Wednesday, Mr. George Jolly, farmer of Rathscar West, left his home early this morning with the intention of shooting starlings which have been an annoyance. Shortly after he left the members of his family heard the report of a gun. Later Mr. Molly's body was found lying near a fence. The head had been blown away. Constable Ryan inspected the spot, and the conclusion he arrived at was that Mr. Jolly was passing through a gateway when the ends of some wire netting caught the gun , jerking it up and discharging the contents into Mr. Molly's face. An inquiry will be held. Mr. Jolly was aged 52 years, and has left a widow And six children.
