George Henry Key 1887 - 1937

George Henry Key of Kew, City of Boroondara County, VIC Australia was born in 1887 in Melbourne to William Key and Matilda Ashman Key. He had siblings Benjamin John Key, Rebecca Elizabeth Key, William Walter Key, Emiline Edith Key, John Key, Mry Matilda Key, John Key, Louisa Jane Sibley, Annie Victoria Kinlock, George Henry Key, Rebecca Elizabeth Salisbury, Percy Francis Key, and William Walter Key. He married Rachel Victoria (Olsen) Key in 1909, and had children Nellie May Key, George Henry Key, Leslie William James Key, and Harold Arthur Key. George Key died at age 50 years old in 1937 in Nunawading.

In 1887, in the year that George Henry Key was born, on May 9th, Buffalo Bill's Wild West show opened in London. Founded in 1883, the show was attended - twice - by Queen Victoria and adored by audiences who thrilled to his fanciful acts portraying life in the "Wild West."

In 1902, by the time he was merely 15 years old, about 150 thousand United Mine Workers went on strike in eastern Pennsylvania for a wage increase and more suitable hours. They eventually got a 10% raise and their workday was reduced from 10 hours to 9. Because winter was coming and most people at the time heated their homes with coal, President Teddy Roosevelt arbitrated between the owners and the workers - the first time that the Federal government arbitrated in a strike.
