Introduction

Gayla Michelle Glenn was born to father Charles Mark Glenn and mother Juanita Frances Smith. Gayla had siblings Melissa Glenn and Dustin and Dylan Crum. She was in a long term relationship with her boyfriend Paul Butera - described in her obituary as her husband - and they had a son together, Niko. Gayla was found dead in her bedroom by her boyfriend - she had a single gunshot wound. A copy of a report about her death - provided by ABC 13 Eyewitness news - is at Gayla Glenn’s Murder 41 year old Paul Butera called 911 on August 19th of 2009 to say he had arrived at his home on Poplar Grove in Falling Creek to find his longtime girlfriend dead in the master bedroom. Because there were no signs of forced entry - nor did there seem to have been a struggle - and also because police had been called to the residence before (for undisclosed reasons) this particular case was a mysterious one. Thankfully, Michelle's 7 year old son was at his grandmother's at the time of the incident. Both Michelle and Paul had prior criminal records. In 1996 she lived at 1829 Augusta Dr. Apt 27 in Houston Texas, and previously lived at 3005 Lakewood Houston Texas and 12117 Aldine W. Field 11 also in Houston. As of 2014, there were no suspects in Gayla's unsolved murder and as of October of 2023, no one has been arrested. For a copy of her obituary see: Gayla Michelle Glenn: Obituary. UPDATE: The last update released on Gayla's murder was in April of 2022. At that time, her murder was still being investigated and there were no suspects.

GAYLA MICHELLE GLENN, 33, passed away 08/19/09. She is survived by her husband, Paul Butera; son: Niko; Mom: Juanita Crum; siblings: Melissa Glenn, Dustin Crum (Ashley), and Dylan Crum; loving mother-in-law: Lillian Butera; special aunt: Brenda Smith; and numerous loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held Sun., 08/23/09, 11 am, at 10567 Veterans Memorial Dr., with a chapel service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers a trust fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank for Niko Butera. Gayla Glenn’s Murder

HOUSTON - Investigators are still looking into the death of Gayla Glenn, 33. Her body was found in her bedroom Wednesday afternoon by her boyfriend around 2:30pm. Police say initially it appeared as if she was killed by a single gunshot. What happened inside this northwest Harris County home is a real mystery. What deputies know is that Paul Butera, 41, called 911 to say he arrived at his home on Poplar Grove at Falling Creek to find his longtime girlfriend dead in the master bedroom.

"The police pulled up and all the activity started and they brought him outside, put him in the back seat, put bags over his hands," said a neighbor. There was no sign of forced entry. It appears the victim did not struggle, but investigators say the scene is a confusing one. "There's a lot of things in there that doesn't make sense to us that we gotta work through," said Sgt. Larry Davis of Harris County Sherriff's Office Homicide.

Deputies say they have been called to this address before, but would not reveal why, except to say the calls did not involve violence. Investigators are interviewing Butera, but caution he currently is not a suspect and to this point they do not think he was involved in the death. The couple had a 7-year-old son who has been at his grandmother's. Neighbors say the couple did not live at the home for very long.

"The thing that gets me is that you all think you're in a secure neighborhood and that you know your new neighbors, but I guess you never know," said the neighbor. As for whether or not those neighbors should be worried about what may have happened here, deputies are reassuring them. "For 27 years, there have been very few daylight break-ins that I've ever worked. I think the neighborhood is safe," said Sgt. Davis.

After several hours of questioning, deputies returned Butera to his home. We can tell you that after searching court records that both Butera and Glenn had criminal records.
