    Gavin was the most loving, non violent person I ever had the pleasure to know, in my life. Gavin was in a good mood all the time. Would run instead of walk and announce his presence by yelling," mama I'm here". Once inside everyone within reach got a hug and a kiss on the top of the head. He never left the house without saying, " love you all see you in a bit". Gavin, I love you and miss you so very much. Always, Mama.

    Gavin was the fiance of Lacey Stalnaker, the son of Kristal and the late James Rick Mays and step son of the late James Buddy Kerkondis. Gavin is survived by 2 brothers, Nicholas Andrew Mays wife Jessie and Timothy Scott Mays wife Michelle. Gavin is an uncle to Sheyanne, Alyssa and Andrew James Mays. Gavin's grandparents are Martha Mester. Helen Peters and the late James Rutledge Mays and the late Sterling Peters. The funeral was held at Saint Martin of Tours Church in Cheviot on June 4, 2010. Some of Gavin's ashes were scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, Anna Maria Island Florida, Gavin loved and considered Florida his home. The remaining ashes are with his family awaiting interment with his father Rick Mays.

In 1983, in the year that Gavin Todd Mays was born, on August 30th, the Soviet Union claimed that a South Korean Boeing 747 jetliner (Flight 007), bound for Seoul from New York City, had strayed into Soviet airspace. Saying that they believed it to be a U.S. spy plane, the passenger jet was shot down by a Soviet SU-15 fighter - after it had tracked the airliner for two hours. All 269 passengers (including a U.S. Representative from Georgia) and crew were killed.

In 1990, at the age of merely 7 years old, Gavin was alive when on April 24th, the Hubble telescope was launched into space after long delays due to the Challenger explosion. An optical flaw was found within weeks of launch but was fixed within three years. The discoveries made possible by the Hubble have contributed to scientists' understanding of the universe.
