    Frieda Krenich was born on September 10, 1901 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Ludwig "Louis" Krenich (1862-1930) and Elizabeth Louise Thiel (1868-). She had siblings Otto Krenich (1889-1965), Martha Krenich (1892-), Lewis Andrew Krenich (1894-1963), William Krenich (1897-1979), Max Krenich (1903-1989), and Edward Krenich (1909-1988). She lived in Brooklyn and in 1922, in the state of Minnesota she married Arthur Henry Hamlin (1896–1980). Together the couple had children: Betty Genevieve Goble (1920-2013), Eugene Arthur Hamlin (1922-1990), Bernice Constance Hamlin (1924-2004), Beniamin Edward Hamlin (1925-2011), and James Lewis Hamlin Sr (1926-1978). Freida was also with Gordon Graeme Goble (1897-1962) and had a child together, Betty Genevieve Goble (1920-2013).

In 1910, Frieda was just 9 years old when Halley's comet, which returns past the earth every 75 - 76 years was observed photographically for the first time. Two fortuitous events occurred - photography had been invented since the last time the comet had passed and the comet was relatively close. There was panic because one astronomer claimed that the gas from its tail "would impregnate the atmosphere and possibly snuff out all life on the planet." People bought gas masks, "anti-comet pills" and "anti-comet umbrellas".
