    Freda V. Pickett, 89, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born April 15, 1919 in Oblong, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Matilda Rennier Hann. Freda was a graduate of St. Marie High School. She married Donald Ivan Pickett on June 17, 1944 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on August 2, 1999. Freda was a self employed house cleaner, retiring in 1980. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was known as the Lefse Queen. Freda loved to garden and cook and was known for her famous pies. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Survivors include her two daughters, Joy Loree (Richard) Bergmann and Janice (Ernest) Champion both of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Andrew (Michelle McMillan) Bergmann and Katherine (Dan) Thomas, Rebecca (Brian) Spahos and Bryan Champion; sister-in-law, Esther Hann of Sikeston, MO; great grandchildren, twins Carrissa and Kaitlyn Spahos and Steven Thomas; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, Raymond, Bernard, Joseph and Herbert Hann, five sisters, Marie Hann, Loretta Strand, Gertrude Doran, Dolores Gerhard and Gladys Heaney. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Graveside services will be in East Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home.

Eight players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series, thus allowing the Cincinnati Reds to win, and making money off of the losses.
