Floyd Eugene Ohmie of Anderson County, Kansas United States was born on September 13, 1927 to Bertha Marie Martha Louise (Gehrke) Ohmie and John Dietrich Ohmie. He had siblings Herman William Ohmie, Irwin Clarence Ohmie, Harry Edward Ohmie Sr, Robert John Ohmie, Raymond Leroy Ohmie, Mildred (Ohmie) Corbett, and Lillie Irene (Ohmie) Adams. He married Marie Anna (Kleinsorge) Ohmie, and had children Ronald Eugene Ohmie, Marcella A (Ohmie) Waller, Shirley Ann (Ohmie) Evans, Jimmie Ohmie, Marjorie (Ohmie) Boeckman, and Sharon (Ohmie) Thummel. Floyd Ohmie died at age 84 years old on September 11, 2012, and was buried in September 2012 at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Alliceville, Coffey Co County.

In 1927, in the year that Floyd Eugene Ohmie was born, the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".
