Florence Mabel (Parker) Mullen of Windsor, VIC Australia was born on December 1, 1898 in Orbost, East Gippsland Shire County to Margaret Ellen Little and James William Parker. She had siblings William George Parker, Margaret Ellen Parker, Charlotte Mary Parker, Edith Little (Parker) Mcivor, Daphne Irene Annie Parker, Alice Louisa Parker, Francis Calmit Parker, and Frederick John Parker. She married Edgar Raymond Mullen in 1925, and had children Patricia Ellen Mullen and Marjorie Joan Mullen. Florence Mullen died at age 63 years old on October 4, 1962 in Windsor.

In 1898, in the year that Florence Mabel Parker was born, on February 15th, the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor. The reason for the explosion has never been found, but it killed 266 men. "Remember the Maine" became a rallying cry and precipitated the United States' declaration of war on Spain two months later - the beginning of the Spanish-American War. On December 10th, the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty gave the U.S. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam - for $20 million - and, temporarily, Cuba.
