Memories from Ronald D. Halls - Ouray, Colorado
Fannie lived across the street from the playground at Ouray School. My grandfather Matteo Zadra was related to Fannies husband Charles G. Zadra (Charlie). They were referred to as cousins. Both were born in neighboring villages in Austria (Vervo and Tres). In grade school in the 1960’s my mother Rose Zadra Tristant Halls (oldest child and daughter of Matteo Zadra) would send me to school on the school bus with a quart of cows cream for Fannie. I would hop off the bus and deliver. She would give me a dollar to return to my Mom in exchange for the cream. She lived on the second floor of a very small two story pale green building. A very narrow wooden stairway led up to her apartment. Her home was always clean and orderly. Her cookie jar was always full of hard sugar cookies. She was always very kind to me. My Mom and my brother Ray and I would occasionally visit Fannie at her apartment in Ouray. I graduated in the class of 1974 from Ouray High School. Fannie passed away in 1972.
