Evelyn Ruth (Rasmussen) Davis was born on November 2, 1914 to Hans Harold Rasmussen and Anna Marie (Laursen), and had siblings Winton H. Rasmussen, Richard Carl Rasmussen, Carl Warren Rasmussen, Martin Hans Rasmussen, Martin Niels Rasmussen, Harold Peter Rasmussen, and Mable Louise Tarr. She married Hazen Bartlett Knox on November 1, 1963 in Maine United States. She married Henry John Davis. She would also marry Frank Byron Stickles. Evelyn Davis died at age 61 years old on July 31, 1976.

Anna Jarvis had championed a Mother's Day for years but Congress had joked a few years earlier that then they would have to proclaim a "Mother-in-law's Day" as well. The President who championed a woman's right to vote also created a day in their honor.
