    Eva was my mom. She was a tiny woman but everything she did in life was huge! She was a pixie doll! She was a woman welder during World War 2 and worked at the shipyards in Newark, N.J. where she received a certificate for being the best woman welder in the state. She could cook, sew and fix anything a man could! She was awesome! She had a heart of gold and loved with all of that heart. She had 2 children, Evelyn Carol and Allen Edward. There are also 3 grandchildren, Jason Leyner, Alexander DeVico and Todd Mark DeVico. 7 great grandchildren, Alexi Marie DeVico, Isaac Anthony DeVico, Vincent Albert DeVico, Karlee Nicole DeVico, Colin Leyner and Ryan Leyner. Her husband Albert and her family were the light of her life.

In 1918, in the year that Eva Leyner was born, on November 1, an elevated train on the Brooklyn line of the subway - driven by an inexperienced operator because of a strike - tried to navigate a turn at 30mph. The limit on the curve was 6 mph. The 2nd and 3rd cars of the 5 car wooden train were badly damaged and at least 93 people were killed, making it the deadliest crash in New York subway history.

In 1937, by the time she was 19 years old, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
