Eva Cleverly of Australia was born in 1863 to Roger Cleverly and Harriet Elizabeth (Avery) Cleverly. She had siblings Harriet Elizabeth Cleverly, Ann Jeannette Cleverly, William J Cleverly, and Emily Augusta (Cleverly) Hardham. Eva Cleverly died at age 2 years old in 1865.

In 1863, in the year that Eva Cleverly was born, on January 1st, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The Proclamation made the abolition of slavery in the Confederate states an official war goal. It also immediately freed 50,000 slaves, with the rest freed as Union armies advanced into Confederate states. The Proclamation wasn't a Congressional law - it was an Executive Order.

In 1865, in the year of Eva Cleverly's passing, on April 14th, President Abraham Lincoln was shot while attending a comedy at Ford's Theatre - Our American Cousin - in Washington, D.C. Actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth shot him 4 days after Lee had surrendered. The President died the next day. At almost the same time that Lincoln was shot, US Secretary of State William H. Seward and his family were attacked at home by another conspirator and Confederate sympathizer.
