    Eugene "Gene" Edward Kostelaz, age 82, of Hot Springs, AR, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. He was born on November 2, 1934, to the late Clarence and Thelma Kostelaz. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in Michigan and was Marine veteran, who served two tours. After military life, Gene went to work for the postal service for 14 years. He later built his own business, from the ground up "Key Hole Safe and Lock", based out of Amarillo, TX., which he ran successfully for over 24years. Gene was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents a brother, Louis Kostelaz and a sister, Patricia Blecker. Gene was an outstanding father, and he will truly be missed by his sons, David Scott Kostelaz (Tammy) of Mayflower, AR, Richard Dean Kostelaz and Edward Kostelaz (Cami) both of Hot Springs, AR; a brother Charles "Rick" Kostelaz "Barb" of Nevada; a sister, Mary Anne Donahue (Jim) of California and through no fault of his own, too many grand and great-grandchildren to count. No formal service will be held.

In 1934, in the year that Eugene E. Kostelaz was born, on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
