She had siblings Elsie May Dolheguy, Herbert Stanley Dolheguy, Leslie Theodore Dolheguy, Vera Dolheguy, and William Arthur Victor Dolheguy. She married Leslie Thomas Hull in 1936, and had a child Donald Thomas Hull. Ethel Hull died at age 51 years old in 1961 in Ashburton, City of Boroondara County.

Edgar Hoover, at the age of 29, was appointed the sixth director of the Bureau of Investigation by Calvin Coolidge (which later became the Federal Bureau of Investigation). A former employee of the Justice Department, Hoover accepted his new position on the proviso that the bureau was to be completely divorced from politics and that the director report only to the attorney general.
