    Ethel Elizabeth Fontanella was born to Americo Fontanella and Elizabeth Gilmartin. She had siblings Virginia, Alfred T., and Joseph Fontanella, all of whom predeceased her. Ethel Fontanella married John J. Shean, who died in 1964. She then married Arthur W. Kennelty on June 29, 1968, in Wantagh, New York. Ethel had two children, Robert E. Shean and Patricia Spillane. Ethel and husband Arthur Kennelty moved to Hadley New York in 1975 and spent most winters in Key Largo, Florida, until the late 1980s.
