She would also marry Max Paul VanderHorck, and they had children RuthMary VanderHorck and Max Phillip VanderHorck. Emele Picken died at age 90 years old in November 1986.

Emele was not born into the Picken family. She was the only child of Richard A. Mabey and Grace Welch Mabey (of the Welch's grape juice family) and was born with the name Grace Emily Mabey. As she got older, she dropped Grace entirely and changed the spelling of her name to “Emele.” She was widowed in her 20s after her husband Max VanderHorck passed at the age of 24. She later married Hunter Picken, who was still her husband at the time of her death in 1986. I am her granddaughter, child of RuthMary VanderHorck.
