Ellen (Wright) Missen of Rosedale Australia was born in 1856 to Wright James Missen and Jane Burt Missen. She was the mother of Albert Thomas Missen, Albert Joseph James Missen, Alfred Loch Missen, Edward Herbert Hector Missen, and Ada Josephine Missen. Ellen Missen died at age 88 years old on July 15, 1945 in Yarram.

Marines from the ship the USS Decatur, stationed in Elliott Bay, along with about 50 Seattle settlers, fought Native Americans in the area. Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens had declared a "war of extermination" on Native communities 5 days before.
