Ellen Beatriz (Griffin) Dunne was born on January 28, 1932 in Tucson, Arizona United States to Thomas Francis Griffin and Beatriz E. Goodwin. She married Dominick John Dunne on April 24, 1954 and they later divorced in 1965. She had children Thomas Griffin Dunne, Alexander L. Dunne, Dominique Dunne, Dominique Ellen Dunne, and Beatriz Dunne. Ellen Dunne died at age 64 years old on January 9, 1997 in Nogales, and was buried in 1997 at City of Nogales Cemetery - in Nogales, Santa Cruz County.

Ellen Beatriz Griffin was a ranching heiress. Her father owned the Yerba Buena Ranch near Tucson, Arizona, and was a wealthy executive of the Griffin Wheel Company.

Ellen attended Miss Porter’s School, Briarcliff College, and the University of Arizona
Personal Life & Family

Ellen, known by the nickname Lenny, met Dominick Dunne and married him in April 1954. They moved to New York, and had their two sons there. Around 1957, Dominick insisted they moved to Los Angeles, and the family relocated to Santa Monica, and then to Beverly Hills, where their daughter was born. During the 1960s (sources differ between 1964-1969), she divorced her husband, but remained cordial with him and kept his surname. Shortly after this, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and her children would help her navigate her disability. She survived with this illness for many years. In 1982, Dunne lost her daughter Dominique to a domestic dispute. After this incident, she became an advocate for murder victims and domestic violence, until her death in 1997.
