    Elias Samuel Barsoum was born on February 8, 1923 in Edessa, Turkey. He is the son of Peter Barsoum (1896-1963) and Khatoon Barsoum (1906-1999). He had five siblings including Peter Barsoum Jr (1925-2009) and Margaret Barsoum (1928-2016). He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1927 and and resided in Central Falls, Providence, Rhode Island, USA and Worcester, Massachusetts. Elias was a graduate of Commerce High School (Worcester, Massachusetts, USA) and he later went on to attend Worcester State University (Worcester, Massachusetts, USA). On 30 Jun 1942, Elias registered for the draft in Worcester, Massachusetts, while working as a student. He then enlisted on February 18, 1943 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He joined the Army of the United States as a Private. Elias was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was married to Beatrice (Brandt) Barsoum and together they had daughters, Christine, Elisa and Eve Barsoum as well as a son, Peter Barsoum.
