  • Introduction

    Eleanora Barbara (Obremska) Kuzia was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States in 1912. Shortly after arriving in the United States, she moved to Racine, Wisconsin, where she lived the rest of her life. She became a naturalized citizen on April 21, 1943, in Wisconsin. Eleanor Obremska married Paul Kuzia on April 16, 1913, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1949. They had four children - three sons and a daughter - Paul, Edward, Stanley, and Sophia Kuzia. See Eleanora Kuzia: Obituary.

    The following obituary appeared in The Journal Times (Racine, Wisconsin) on Tuesday, February 15, 1983: KUZIA, MRS. ELEANORA (NEE: OBREMSKA) Highridge Health Care Center Age 87. Passed away on Sunday, February 13, 1983, at Highridge Health Care Center. She was born in Poznan, Poland on July 18, 1895, and came to the USA in 1912 and to Racine shortly after. On April 16, 1913, at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Milwaukee she was united to marriage to Paul Kuzia, who preceded her in death in 1949. Mrs. Kuzia was a Charter Member of St. Stanislaus Church, St. Hedwig Society, and the Rosary Society. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Lucille) Kuzia, Edward (Dorothy) Kuzia, Stanley (Genevieve) Kuzia; one daughter and son-in-law, Sophie (Edwin) Hillicki, all of Racine; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other near relatives and friends. Private Funeral Services were held at St. Stanislaus Church at 11:00 a.m. this (TUESDAY) morning, with Msgr. Stanley B. Witkowiak officiating. Interment was at St. George Cemetery.

His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.
